Check out the latest cover of NEWSWEEK magazine, featuring Michelle Obama.
Michelle Obama challenges the typical stereotype of African-American women, including what is beautiful. Often, the standard of beauty for black women has meant fair skin, and dainty facial features, a limited scope that has had a profound effect on the self-esteem of many African-American women. Michelle Obama puts a new face on the standard of beauty.

I usually wander around on Modern Minority, but I’ll try commenting here and there to add my thoughts. Michelle Obama will bring something new to the White House and I think she is really fascinating, as I think the public agrees with me too. I respect her so much and I think she is such a strong woman. What are some of your thoughts on Michelle Obama?
Michelle is indeed a very strong woman. In fact, she is a breath of fresh air in a world filled with stale, emotionless figures who are rarely heard from. (I’m looking at you, Cindy McCain)
To me she breaks the sterotype associated with our black women either they have money and walk around with there nose stuck up or they act ghetto like they have no home training. But, Mrs.Obama shows the other side of Black women those that are down to earth and can fit into any situation without going aganist who they are to please others. She reminds me of that aunt that everyone loves causes she’s the one that don’t get involved in the family drama and stays true to herself.
