• White House Asked About Sykes’ Hijacker Joke

The White House on Monday expressed disapproval of Wanda Sykes’ joke at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that suggested conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh was a September 11th hijacker.
Some commentators thought the comedian went too far in talking about Limbaugh. When asked about it at Monday’s daily briefing, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs – who was on the top table at the dinner with President Obama when the joke was made – said he had not talked to the president specifically about the joke.

But he added: “I think there are a lot of topics that are better left for serious reflection rather than comedy.”

“I think there’s no doubt that 9/11 is part of that,” Gibbs said, pointing out the fact that Sykes was booked by the association not the White House.

At the annual dinner, where Washington political types mix with A-list Hollywood stars, Sykes referred to Limbaugh, a fierce Obama critic, as the “20th hijacker,” accused him of treason and referenced his former addiction to pain killers.

Riffing off Limbaugh’s controversial recent remark that he hoped Obama fails, Sykes said “I hope his kidneys fail, how about that?”

Obama, seated close to Sykes on the stage, was seen to smile uncomfortably at the remark and reach for a glass of water as the comedian asked “too much?”

America needs to lighten up a little. It was funny as hell. If the comment was made by a white comedian, no one would have had a problem with you.
      Give me a break.
