Racism toward Hispanics is no way near as bad as what black people endure. Most Hispanics think they are white anayway, thats why don’t protest that much.
Frank, I am a teacher and have Hispanics in my classrooms. In this part of the world, we have only had these children in our aea for the past six years or so. Before that time, Hispanics did not feel welcomed.
As I talk to many of these students, I don’t get the impression that they want to be white, rather that they want to be free to pursue a decent career and life. They too want to be proud of their heritage and culture.
Many don’t protest because it is safer not to. I know horror stories of incidents of racism that happens everyday in this country to these people. One of my students is a young lady who told me that her parents really believed in President Obama’s message, but were afraid to vote for him, but was afraid that “the radicals” would kill him if he won.
That statement spoke volumns to me. Racism, at any level or degree is wrong and just as damaging no matter the ethnicity.
Racism is just that racism, being a blackman with very close hispanic friends. There is racism from both sides, you do have some hispanics that tend too look down at blacks and you have blacks who look down on hispanics. So, regardless this is a ugly situation to have to live in the U.S. especially since this is suppose too be a melting pot.
